Project Studio
Project Studio allows students to access real industry projects. Open to both Communication Design and Multimedia Design students, Project Studio provides opportunity and guidance to enthusiastic students wanting to gain practical design experience.
On the other hand, Project Studio offers external organisations access to resources available at Billy Blue College of Design. Design studios can benefit from the enthusiasm and fresh approach of a student, combined with the expertise and knowledge of a lecturer.
In essence, Project Studio is the link between industry and student. Project Studio:
- Feeds creative industry projects to BB students
- Enhances student work output
- Fosters partnerships between lecturers and students
- Provides a space for student and lecturer contact
- Stimulates interest amongst the industry
- Creates a forum for exciting graduate exhibitions and events
- Uncovers and develops new opportunities
Career Guidance
The college not only provides our students with the opportunity to seek work experience in the industry, but also makes sure that every student graduates with a professional portfolio of their work complete with their personal business card and letterhead. We also have a graduation exhibition that is well subscribed to by top design and advertising professionals. In fact, students have been known to get a call from a prospective employer within weeks of the graduate exhibition.
A Highly Paid Career that’s Fun
Most Designers and Art Directors earn well above the average income and many are in the top five per cent of salary earners. Communication Design and Multimedia Design are growth industries worldwide, with a strong demand for qualified designers across all visual media. The rapid development of multimedia, including the growth in video games, digital film and television, is also creating exciting new opportunities for graphic designers.
Designers can earn high incomes both as employees and as freelance designers. Career paths can lead to both senior creative and management positions. Typically, a graduate with either a Communication Design degree or a Multimedia Design degree would expect to start work with a salary of between $30,000 and $40,000. However, it’s possible to double that after a few years. Creative Directors will be earning anywhere between $100,000 and $500,000 … and some earn even more than that!

Billy Blue College of Design Alumni
We prepare our students to be employment-ready when they graduate and consequently, we have achieved outstanding employment outcomes. Check out some of the success stories in our Alumni section.
Part-time work
Most of our students work while they are studying. While it is up to each individual to find casual work in other industries (hospitality, retail, tourism etc.), we can help students who are keen to work as designers. We also commission some design work for the college with the help of Project Studio.
